Over the past year, one song has played on repeat in my garage early in the AM. “Hungry,” by Darren Regan.

Especially on mornings when my motivation is low, one lyric always speaks to me: “I used to ask myself, can I do this? And something said within me, you’re the one… You gotta be hungry!”

That line hits differently when you’re standing alone in a cold garage, lacing up your shoes and choosing discipline over a warm bed.

There are days when I don’t feel very inspired. But I show up anyway. Being hungry is about deciding my goals matter, even when my motivation levels fluctuate.

My daughter has heard this song more times than I can count. She loves to paint. My job is simple: buy some canvases, stock the paint, and make sure the space on the walls is there.

One day, she decided to paint that lyric.

“You Gotta be Huntry.”

What did you see first? Her misspelling, right? What I saw first wasn’t a mistake. It was initiative. Courage. It was a young girl hearing something powerful and deciding to create. She was hungry.

The world tells us to be flawless. That things must be perfect before we begin. But real strength lives in execution. Having an idea and acting on it. Putting the paint on the canvas. Pressing play on the song. Showing up for ourselves, and for others, even when it’s hard.

We can perfect things later. We can spell it right later. Hunger moves us. And when that quiet voice inside us says, “you’re the one,” that’s the moment to lean in!

Be “huntry” enough to begin.
